These O-rings feature an unique S-shaped profile and are constructed of flexible silicone rubber material, making them easier to use and providing a much better seal than the previous circular cross-sectional rings. In addition, since there is little to no lateral friction on the sample, these O-rings reduce imaging artifacts. The upper, tapered portion of the O-ring fits snugly and seals well with the fluid cell. The lower part of the O-ring flares out to a flattened flange that forms a liquid-tight seal against the sample.
